On Monday, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis, who is a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, served lunch to students and dished about school nutrition. Tillis believes schools need to have more input when it comes to their lunch menus.

"Washington needs to fix this nutrition program so that we produce the outcomes I think everybody is after."

If you look in the cafeteria trash cans, you will see uneaten whole grain pizza. Tillis said the waste is a sign that nutrition requirements, imposed by the federal government, aren't working.

"I mean, what kid doesn't like pizza?"

…"My bias is trusting the schools to get it right. Let's measure outcomes. Let them figure out what's best to put on their plates to create healthy outcomes," said Tillis.
