North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis detailed his criticism in an interview with Washington bureau reporter Geoff Bennett. The following is a brief excerpt:
Tillis: "I will never knowingly vote for something that I think puts Americans at risk. I think that this agreement puts Americans at risk, and there are other ways to get to a non-nuclear Iran without stipulating that maybe they can have a weapon within eight years or 10 years or 15 years."
Bennett: "The president said today that critics of this deal should be asked, 'What alternatives would you suggest that reach the same objective?' So I put that question you: What's a better alternative?"
Tillis: "Well, I think it's fascinating the president has already said any alternatives we suggest, he would veto. I think we would start with something simple -- a non-nuclear Iran."
