"I think it’s extremely important," McClure said of the trip, adding that commissioners received guidance from both Sen. Thom Tillis and Sen. Richard Burr on issues like FEMA funding during natural disasters and federal grant opportunities.
 
… In total, McClure said approximately 50 commissioners made the trip, which also included meetings with top private sector leaders, federal government officials, and senior members of Tillis’ staff to engage in discussions covering a wide range of issues, including the federal budget and appropriation process and the need to expand broadband access in rural communities.
 
Both senators praised the visit as unique chance to hear from commissioners representing each community in the state.
 
"The needs of each and every county in North Carolina is unique, and I look forward to continuing to partner with county commissioners and other local officials to support initiatives and policies that help their communities innovate and thrive," Tillis said.
