Patrick McHenry, a Republican serving Lincoln County in North Carolina’s 10th District and North Carolina Sens. Richard Burr and Thom Tillis attacked the proposal as a threat to national security.
 
On Twitter, Burr called the push to close the facility “dangerous,” and Tillis agreed that the move wouldn’t be safe.
 
“So many brave men and women from North Carolina have risked their lives to capture Islamic terrorists and send them to Guantanamo Bay, where they no longer pose a threat to the world,” Tillis said in a statement. “It’s unbelievable that President Obama is now calling for transferring those dangerous terrorists to American soil.”
