Introducing Legislation to Keep Families Together

This week, I introduced the Keep Families Together and Enforce the Law Act. Migrant children should not be separated from their families, and this legislation provides the solution by clarifying federal law to ensure that families will remain together and receive good care as they go through the legal process. In addition, the Keep Families Together and Enforce the Law Act requires the Department of Homeland Security to take steps to reunify families that were previously separated.

Visiting Eastern North Carolina

I recently spent the week visiting Eastern North Carolina to meet with constituents and hear their concerns. I had the opportunity to talk about about important issues such as tax reform, immigration reform, regulatory relief for small businesses, and trade policy.

Securing Resources for North Carolina

This month, Senator Burr and I worked to secure a $147 million grant for key infrastructure projects across Eastern North Carolina’s highway corridors. The grant, which will be the largest infrastructure project in the state, will help widen up to 25 miles of road along I-95 and upgrade the remaining sections of U.S. 70 to interstate grade, allowing the freeway to become I-42.

Additionally, I worked to ensure Swain County received the remaining $35.2 million owed to them from the North Shore Road settlement this year. This is the beginning of the end for Swain County’s long fight to receive the funds it is owed for the damage caused when the federal government flooded its communities more than 70 years ago.
