WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), a member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, received the appointment as Ranking Member of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on a bipartisan basis on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, both in the full committee and the subcommittee assignments announced today,” said Senator Tillis. “I am pleased to serve as Ranking Member on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee, which provides necessary and meaningful oversight of the federal financial regulators. I believe it is critically important that Congress continues to adopt well-thought-out and right-sized regulations for the U.S. financial industry, all while ensuring that federal regulators maintain fair and transparent supervision that adheres tightly to their scope of jurisdiction.”

“As our nation works to recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and government-imposed shutdowns, the Financial Institutions Subcommittee will play an important role in expanding access to credit while guarding against burdensome regulations,” said Ranking Member Pat Toomey. “I am sure Senator Tillis’ record of implementing pro-growth policies and delivering results will prove successful in leading this subcommittee.”

The Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee is over the following jurisdictions:

  • Banks, savings associations, credit unions, and other financial institutions
  • Deposit Insurance
  • Federal Home Loan Bank System
  • Regulatory activities of the Federal Reserve System
