00:43 - Tillis on preparations for Hurricane Florence:
“We already had FEMA in place still recovering from Hurricane Matthew and we have had briefings from our emergency management experts. I think we are as prepared as we can be, but what can help be more prepared is to have any citizen who has been asked to evacuate to do so, for their own safety as well as the safety of our first-responders.”

1:13 – Tillis on the potential impact of Hurricane Florence:
“I’m proud of the local elected officials that have taken the necessary steps to protect North Carolinians, including the Governor for issuing mandatory evacuations. Again, Hurricane Matthew was a category 1 storm when it made landfall and it caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, including loss of life. Hurricane Floyd was very similar as a category 2 storm. This is a very dangerous storm, the surge and rainfall estimates have not changed, and it is going to hit almost all of North Carolina. Everybody in the state needs to pay attention, seek cover, stay away from floods, and listen to your local law enforcement.”
