Michelle Jones: Choice Program failing our veterans
| Apr 10 2016
Medical society CEO Robert W. Seligson also called on U.S. Sen. Richard Burr to take legislative action to fix these issues. On March 7, Sen. Burr, along with Sen. Thom Tillis (both North Carolina Republicans) introduced the Veterans Choice Improvement Act of 2016. This legislation proposes changes to address the bureaucratic delays, hassles and confusion that veterans experience in attempting to get health care through the Veterans Choice program. It also makes the program permanent, with advance funding.
This legislation is a crucial step in helping to ensure our veterans get the care they need and deserve. In the meantime, as an organization representing physicians and physician assistants throughout the state, the medical society will continue to work with individual practices and doctors to help eliminate the endless phone calls waiting for authorization of procedures and to be reimbursed.
We applaud our members' desire to provide the highest quality of care for our veterans, and the duty we share to ensure the men and women who serve our country receive this care.
