WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued the following statement after Senate Democratic leaders blocked critical legislation that would fund the Department of Veterans Affairs and provide $1.1 billion in funding to combat the Zika virus:

“It’s incredibly irresponsible for Senate Democratic leaders to block funding to support our veterans and combat the Zika virus – the very same amount of funding every single Democrat agreed to earlier this spring. Despite claiming Zika funding was their top priority, Democratic leaders are now looking for any excuse to turn this into a partisan political game in midst of an election year. The Zika virus is already in the United States and has the potential of quickly becoming a public health crisis, and it’s time for Democratic leaders to stop with their reckless political games and put the safety of the American people first.”
