Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier occurs every hour on the hour and every half hour during the summer months.

Botanic Gardens

Gardens are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Public tours are available Monday through Friday continually from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., leaving every 15 minutes.

Department of State

Tours can be arranged by reservation up to three months in advance by contacting the Department of State Tour Office at 202-647-3241 between the hours of 8:15 -11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 5:00 p.m. weekdays.

Tours are given daily from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tours leave every 15 minutes.

North Carolina residents are welcome to request an FBI tour through our office.

Library of Congress

Tours are conducted Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Groups of 10 people or more need reservations.

National Cathedral

Tours are conducted Monday and Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. Guided tours are offered Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Stretching from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol, this national landmark includes the World War II Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Vietnam Memorial among many others. A map is available for download that includes all the monuments, memorials, and gardens included.

Tours of the Pentagon are available to schools, educational organizations, and other select groups by reservation only. Please call the Pentagon for more information at (703) 697-1776.

Smithsonian Institution

Admission is free to all of the Smithsonian attractions in Washington. The Smithsonian museums include the following: African Art Museum, the National Air & Space Museum, the American Art Museum, the American History Museum, the American Indian Museum, the Anacostia Museum of African American History & Culture, the Freer &Sackler Asian Art Galleries, the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, the Natural History Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Postal Museum and the Renwick Gallery.

Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lecture in court is conducted every hour on the half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. when the court is not is session.

United States Capitol Building

Our office staff conducts Capitol tours for North Carolina residents visiting Washington each weekday. The Capitol Guide Service also conducts free guided tours of the Capitol Monday Through Saturday throughout the year for larger groups.

Parking is very limited around the city and it is recommended to use public transportation during your visit. The Metrorail offers convenient access to all the major attractions Washington has to offer.
