WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) discussed the upcoming two-year anniversary of the landmark Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the positive results it has produced for North Carolinians. The once-in-a-generation overhaul of the tax code was signed into law by President Donald Trump on December 22, 2017.

“When we passed the landmark Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017, Speaker Pelosi immediately called it ‘crumbs’. Just months after it passed, economic activity was moving in the right direction, the stock markets and 401Ks started growing, and more people got jobs.

“Today, millions of jobs have been created and those jobs are higher-paying jobs. The lowest wage earners are seeing some of the most significant growth in their paychecks. We are seeing more jobs in decades and we have record low unemployment among minorities and women. We are seeing more job opportunities and upward mobility and I don’t believe it’s finished.

“The tax cuts we enacted when I was Speaker of the House in North Carolina had the same effect. We are seeing corporations re-locate to North Carolina and we are seeing job creation with another business announcing they are moving to our state virtually every week. That started with the tax cuts and regulatory reform we did in North Carolina when I was Speaker of the House and it has just continued to provide positive outcomes for people in North Carolina.”
