Tillis Opposes Democrats’ Partisan $1.9 Trillion Spending Bill
Instead, my Democratic colleagues pushed their partisan spending bill through the Senate and put an end to the bipartisan spirit of COVID relief that produced results over the past year. I am disappointed the Congressional Democrats and the Biden Administration chose this path while promising to work on a bipartisan basis over the past year, particularly when they had 10 Republicans willing to work on compromise legislation.

Tillis, Colleagues Introduce Amendment to Get Students Back to School
Students in low-income or rural areas, children with physical and intellectual disabilities, and those that rely heavily on school nutrition programs and other in-school services are hit the hardest and we must act now. This commonsense amendment will reward schools who decide to open their doors and start putting the future of our children’s education first.

Tillis Co-sponsors Bipartisan, Bicameral Legislation to Strengthen the Victims of Crime Act
We owe it to every victim to make sure victim service providers in North Carolina and nationwide have the necessary resources to assist those in need. I am proud to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to introduce this commonsense legislation so we can provide victims with the peace of mind they deserve.

Tillis Cosponsors Bill to Prevent Discrimination by Financial Service Providers
The purpose of the Fair Access to Banking Act is to protect fair access to financial services and to ensure banks operate in a safe and sound manner, basing their judgments and decisions on impartial, individualized risk-based analysis developed through empirical data and evaluated under quantifiable standards.

Senate Unanimously Passes Tillis-Cosponsored Legislation to Protect Free Speech at U.S. Colleges
I’m proud the Senate passed this legislation, which gives universities authority over the Confucius Institutes on their campuses. I hope the House chooses to protect freedom of thought on college campuses and joins us in passing the CONFUCIUS Act.

Tillis, Cornyn & Grassley Reintroduce Bill to Protect Asbestos Victims Trust Fund
The PROTECT Asbestos Victims Act will reform the asbestos bankruptcy trust system by adding in layers of oversight, accountability, and transparency, which in turn will help eliminate fraud and ensure that trusts can compensate present and future asbestos victims.

Tillis and Grassley Press Biden Admin on DHS Data Breach at Jordanian, Russian Embassies
Senators Thom Tillis and Chuck Grassley pressed the DHS about a recently uncovered data breach and fraud case involving foreign nationals employed at U.S. embassies in Jordan and Russia stealing refugee case information and selling it for profit.

Tillis and Smith Lead Bipartisan Push to Support Health Care for Veterans Exposed to Radiation
The courageous servicemembers who were assigned to cleaning the fallout and debris from nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands without protective gear in the 1970s deserve the highest quality medical care. The fact that those servicemembers have had to fight for the same level of care as other radiation-exposed veterans is a systemic failure we must correct. This bipartisan legislation is long overdue and will ensure that those veterans receive access to the medical treatment they are entitled to.

Tillis to Serve as Ranking Member of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee
I am pleased to serve as Ranking Member on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee, which provides necessary and meaningful oversight of the federal financial regulators. I believe it is critically important that Congress continues to adopt well-thought-out and right-sized regulations for the U.S. financial industry, all while ensuring that federal regulators maintain fair and transparent supervision that adheres tightly to their scope of jurisdiction.
