Today, North Carolina Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded the Senate confirmation of Kenneth D. Bell to be a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of North Carolina.
“I’m pleased the Senate filled an important judicial vacancy by confirming Ken Bell to serve as North Carolina’s newest district judge,” said Senator Burr. “Ken’s impressive background and extensive experience, in both the private and public sectors, will be a benefit to our citizens and to the judiciary. I know he will serve the Western District of North Carolina well.”
“I applaud the Senate for approving Mr. Ken Bell to be District Judge for the Western District of North Carolina,” said Senator Tillis. “Mr. Bell’s previous work in the private sector and public service in the U.S. Attorney’s office makes him a great choice for this position, and I look forward to him serving the people of Western North Carolina.”

At the recommendation of Senators Burr and Tillis, President Trump announced his intention to nominate Mr. Bell to fill the United States District Court vacancy for the Western District of North Carolina on April 10, 2018.
Currently, Mr. Bell is a partner at McGuireWoods, LLP in Charlotte, North Carolina where his practice focuses on government investigations and white collar litigation. During his time at McGuireWoods, Mr. Bell was appointed by the U.S. District Court to serve as a receiver in the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
Mr. Bell has had a distinguished record of serving North Carolina, having previously worked as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. In 2003, Mr. Bell was awarded the Attorney General’s John Marshall Award for Trial of Litigation.
Mr. Bell received his undergraduate and law degrees from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
